I hope you're wrong about having to blow away the whisper. Keep in mind that the earnings estimate is supposed to be based on company guidance, and is usually a low ball estimate by 10% or so, to make sure there is enough wiggle room. Who knows what the whisper is, but it is what the street really expects. So to blow that away would be great for the stock price near term, but after that the analysts would raise their targets above corporate guidance, because they would assume that qcom is undertating earnings to create large surprises. This means the bar would be raised and future earnings would be harder to meet, thus setting us up for missed earnings, which would be catastrophic. I like how AOL does it, they usually meet whisper but no more. If qcom sells off because of that, I will buy more.
