Enam. I think you misread Bush. I think Bush is an extraordinary cynic, more cynical than any president in history, except for Bill Clinton. I don't think he is disillusioned in the least. If anything, he is now even more cynical.

I supported Bush in 2000 essentially because I thought him as principled as one had a right to expect of a politician in post-Clinton America. I thought his cynicism several orders of magnitude less than Al Gore's.

This is precisely why I support him over John Kerry. Kerry is quite obviously unprincipled, will tell any lie, say any thing, pull any string, if it would get him money and power while preserving the facade of honor that everyone knows is phony, including he himself. His cynicism is pathological.
