People on both sides were always cordial. But the politicians were not, mainly the military dictators of Pakistan. So when I say I do not trust Pakistan, I mean the Pakistani people in power.

Now let us read behind the lines. The US wanted stability in the Indo-Pak theater before they embarked into Iraq. All these years the US promoted Pakistan to create the regional instability and keep the countries of the region poor, weak and constantly fight amongst themselves.

Then in December 2002, immediately prior to the Iraqi invasion. Rumsfeld goes to Pakistan and warns the Pakistani President and his entire cabinet that they have got to stop cross border terrorism, that they have tame the ISI (Pakistani intelligence agency) and bring to trial the murderers of Daniel Pearle, yaadi, yaadi yaada. Pakistan, the wild baby that the US nurtured for thei own political ends soon obliged. After all Pakistan is a poor Third World country. Iraq on the other hand would not have to be at the US' beck and call. They had the oil.

And the US struck. Bush talks about spreading democracy in Iraq. The US after all these years has remained unsuccessful in promoting that in countries which are in their own backyard such as Cuba, Haiti, Dominican republic etc. On the other hand it US tried to pull down the democratically elected President of Venezuela sometime back.

So the US foreign policy is in shambles.
