I wouldn't take the money, either. I would not perceive that to be in my long-term self interest.

I think that the self-interest model could be twisted to justify that sort of thing by people of poor character or poor prospects. But people twist other models, as well, to justify such things. The self-interest one is more conspicuously twistable because of its association with selfishness, but, as a practitioner, I would not expect it to be rationalized any more easily. Earlier in this discussion I mentioned manipulating the Christian model to take advantage of forgiveness. Same difference, I think.
