Mad Max (sorry, but nickname for an NBA basketball player), Re: "The Alpha 21264 is the fastest chip there is. There is none that comes even close. That chip at 575MHz is built on 0.35um process. The speed will be in the 700MHz+ when they go to 0.25um." Why aren't they at 0.25 NOW. IBM got there a year ago, Intel just after. IBM going 0.18 this fall, Intel 1H99. Ya gotta have all the pieces...architecture, design, process and yield to compete (not to mention market acceptance, something it looks like Alpha will never get, at least not at enough of a level to matter).
