What attracts most to Ayn Rand is she explained clearly that no entity has the moral right to impose that foreign icky European ideal of duty on an individual. I.e. no human is born to be pushed around by a God or government. The only acceptable obligations would be the ones you impose upon yourself.

Her ideals were identical to what the founders of your country envisioned for America.

Here is a list of books you might enjoy

Ride the Wind - Lucia St. Clair Robson

The Greatest Gamblers - Ruth Sheldon Knowles

The Good Soldier Svejk - Jaroslav Hasek

Philosophy Who Needs It - Ayn Rand

and no one should be without this classic:

The Young Visiters - Ms. Daisy Ashford, Age 8
