grinder965,

Let me know when it melts down please. <g>

They are not.

Two of the IMT-2000 terrestrial radio interfaces are CDMA. 1 is CDMA & TDMA. 1 is TDMA. One is TDMA & FDMA.

But the good news is that the two most important ones are CDMA, and if you have a long term outlook (which I do), that makes QUALCOMM a winner.

Good article from the Financial Times. The unfortunate thing is that it focuses on the issue of "saturation", but I happen to think that is overblown, even though net wireless subscriber growth declined for the first time this year and it is highly likely that actual (absolute growth) peaked this year.

The need to get data-centric handsets into the market is a real one, as the paradigm shifts from voice-centric to data-centric services.

It appears likely that we will not see either GPRS or 1xRTT handsets delivered in appreciable volume till the 2nd half of this year and real data uptake until 2002.

That makes this year, a potentially tough year for the wireless vendors (as was last year), and it is getting a lot of focus from the financial analysts.

The sector will turn, but it isn't going to turn this quarter, I'm afraid.

I think it is fortunate for QUALCOMM that their fiscal completed one quarter before the end of calendar, and I'm hoping we can have solid earnings and good guidance.

What Nokia reports is going to have a real impact on how the sector is viewed, Hopefully it is viewed positively, and hopefully QUALCOMM backs it up. I'm not sure that there will be too much positive from the rest of the industry.
