That's the way I see it too. I've been on SI since 1995, and as far as I know the only person who has actually changed his or her mind on the basis of these discussions is . . .

For the first two thirds of my life I considered myself very open minded. I could always see both sides of an argument, and sometimes I would argue both just for fun.

I no longer do that.

I learned that if you don't stand up for your views nobody is going to do it for you. If you argue both sides, people don't trust you. I also learned that being open-minded is over-rated. It means that you don't care much about anything that has ever happened to you or will happen to you.
