Francois: The two groups are compared to each other re:the ability to prolong exercise, increase the time
to angina, reduce the number of anginal episodes, and
reduce the use of nitroglycerine. The treated group (AC)
had positive results in all categories reaching statistical significance in each. The sham group (IC) had positive results only in increasing exercise time
which puts this treatment in the category of placebo
effects only. This is characteristic of most studies for
anginal treatments- there seems to be a training effect
in prolonging exercise time but an effective treatment
for angina must show less ischemia, fewer episodes, and
less NTG. Thus when the two groups were compared only the
treated group (AC) proved to have benefit. The major
importance of the study is therefore to show that EECP
has effects which cannot be explained by placebo effects.
As mentioned in a previous post, additional data to be
discussed in questions and answer session show that
when patients were stratified to Canadian classification
all groups had significant improvement- I will try to
scan this data into my next post. RE: stock price its
anyones guess- it could be buy on the rumor sell on the
announcement, it could be sudden awareness by the big boys that an effective treatment exists and therefore push of the stock, there could be an offer for buyout,
there could be a 500point Dow drop on the day of the
conference etc. etc. etc. Best advice: Good percentage
gain can never be bad!
