Apparently you have never used NeXT's OS, and don't know much about it. NeXT OS is the first full operational object oriented OS. NeXTStep is the best operating system there is, EVER, and it will remain to be so for foreseable future. In fact, I personally think that one of the reasons why it was not succesfull (besides Steve's business blunders) was that it was ahead of its time.

I suspect that if Apple has any hope at all, it will be because of adopting some of the elements of the NeXT OS.
