After 26 years at DEC and the conversion of his DEC stock options to CPQ stock, Rando undoubtedly has no particular need to work for a living. Likewise, he probably has no need to get mixed up in the current high-pressure executive environment at CPQ. But this also looks a lot like window dressing. We'll know a lot more about this when CPQ takes the next steps regarding service. It looks to me like they wanted a closer integration with the classic CPQ business and that Rando's role heading an essentially stand alone service business was not moving in that direction.
