Xerox, Compaq Advance Drive to Build 'Digital Gateway' by Linking Scanning, Work Management Software for Microsoft Exchange
Solution joins Document Centre systems, Work Expeditor software
PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 18, 1999-- Pairs leaders in digital document systems
and Microsoft Exchange integration
Xerox Corporation (NYSE:XRX - news) and Compaq Computer Corporation today announced an agreement to connect paper-based information scanned using Xerox Document Centre Systems with Compaq Work Expeditor, industry-leading work-management software that extends the capabilities of Microsoft Exchange by adding automated and secure work-management processes.
The initiative joins the world's leading supplier of digital document systems and the No. 1 integrator of Microsoft Exchange-based systems to create easier and more efficient ways to capture, distribute, manage and produce documents. Xerox and Compaq Services will develop software that permits an automated, single-step process for scanning images on Document Centre Systems and then moving them into work-management processes defined by Compaq Work Expeditor. These electronic documents and associated capabilities will be available to users through the Microsoft Outlook client interface.
''This alliance will further establish Document Centre Systems as the preferred 'digital gateway' to the network,'' said Gil Hatch, president of the Office Document Products Group at Xerox. ''By connecting our scanning capabilities with the secure, well-defined and customizable document processes of Work Expeditor, Xerox and Compaq will create one efficient way of working from two previously separate islands.''
''The ability to bring paper documents into Work Expeditor easily and efficiently will add tremendous value to the collaboration and workflow activities of our customers,'' said Kannankote Srikanth, vice president and general manager, Network and Systems Integration Services for Compaq Services. ''Through this important capability, our partnership with Xerox will add value for millions of Exchange users and extends Compaq's undisputed leadership in Microsoft Exchange-based collaboration solutions through lifecycle services and a full range of Compaq industry-standard servers.''
The initial version of the Document Centre-Work Expeditor solution will be available in June, and the two companies will collaborate in marketing and delivering this offering around the world, as well as in the development of customized solutions.
This Xerox-Compaq initiative will benefit from another major effort announced today between Xerox and Microsoft Corporation, in which these two companies will link Document Centre scanning capabilities with Exchange, and use Microsoft's Windows NT Embedded in future versions of the Xerox Document Centre product family. ''Microsoft Exchange customers will realize tremendous productivity benefits from the Xerox-Compaq solution through the new level of automation it brings to the work-management process using Exchange,'' said John Connors, vice president of Microsoft's Enterprise Applications Group. ''These two companies have created an exciting new way to deploy Microsoft collaboration technology.''
