For anyone considering investing in the Uber IPO, this article is a worthwhile read:

forbes.com

In my opinion, it illustrates why both the owners and employees of this company are ultimately doomed - however great the short-term benefit to owners, employees, and consumers may have been. Long-term, consumers will still benefit just as they have in the airline industry, although the discounted pricing of recent years was never sustainable.

Incidentally, it is said that Buffett rejected a preferred stock deal with Uber last year. When you understand the underlying economics, you realize this is the same sort of the setup as the US Airways preferred in the 1990s - and we all know how that turned out.
