Strip mined land can be reclaimed.

You don't know what you're talking about inode. Mining lands exposes sulfur rich pyrites to air and soil which leaches sulfuric acid via runoffs into streams and lakes, even if you cover the exposed pyrites. After "reclamation" these lands typically support very little flora, other than grasses...generally they become pasture lands...that's if the coal company actually finishes the job...there is a history of coal companies walking away from these restoration projects because of volatility in the economics of coal, leaving the states to deal with the issue years later. There are a number of "reclamation" projects here in our county...tax payers are footing the bill...the local farmers who sold the mineral rights know that the land is pretty useless to growth of foods, so they can only graze cattle on it...

Recently National Coal of Alabama applied to ASMC to strip mine lands right here in our county...of 50+ land owners only two leased their land to the company...these are not rich folks, but all of them had experience with strip mining of their lands. The permit was denied of course precisely because the coal company could not convince them to lease their lands...and they tried hard believe me.

So, sure, if you look at a pasture that was once a strip mine it looks harmless enough...but test the soil and then talk to me.

You are a very superficial partisan fellow.
