Price discrimination rather than membership discrimination. That somewhat weakens the free association argument (but doesn't eliminate it IMO), while also somewhat weakening the anti-discrimination/anti prejudice argument. On the balance I still think that the club has a right to set its membership requirements, including how much someone has to pay. Also on the balance I still think it would be best if the club did let them get the family rate. So why you are correct that I misunderstood the details of the situation, I don't think the corrected version of the details changes my conclusion. Tim
