Individual Investors and the Art of War

Sun Tzu, a great Chinese philosopher, wrote 2 1/2 thousand years ago about
the "Art of War". His writings and teachings are as noteworthy to today's
small investor as they were to the great leaders of the ages. INVESTING
and WAR have many similarities.

As in war, investors must practice dissimulation to succeed. Move only if
there is a real advantage to be gained.

Let your rapidity be that of the wind, your compactness that of the
forest. In raiding and plundering you must be like FIRE, in immovability
be like a MOUNTAIN.

In other words, when day trading, one must move with incredibly SPEED and
FORCE, like that of a THUNDERBOLT! When the countryside is plundered, let
the spoil be divided among the men!

When investing long term, one must have the resolve of a mountain during
downturns. Once again, move only if there is a real advantage to be
gained.

Ponder and deliberate before you make a move. He will CONQUER who has
learned the artifice of deviation. Such is the Art of Maneuvering.

When day trading, a soldier's spirit is keenest in the morning, by noonday
it has begun to flag. By evening his mind is bent only on returning to
camp. A clever general avoids an army when its spirit is keen, but
ATTACKS it when it is sluggish and inclined to return.

We believe much can be to be learned by today's investor from the
teachings of Sun Tuz.

Best Wishes and Good Investing!
