Barbarians are in search of booty. They may justify their behavior as loyalty to tribe, culture, or any number of things including a divine message, but if their intention is to rape and maim to gain the booty (even if they think it is in the afterlife) they are dopes in my book. Their motivation is avarice, greed and debauchery. I have lots of other words for it, pick your preference: Hypocrite, scoundrel, dupe, thug, savage, terrorist.
