Yousef - Re: Merced, McKinley and Delays.

Merced is late - but what nobody is saying is that the Alpha 21264 is late and apparently is not meeting its speed objectives.

Big Deal.

As for clock speed, the Xeon/Tanner/Cascades shrink cycle will improve clock speeds - that is inevitable.

However, what these articles do not discuss is the potential Floating Point performance of the Merced. With 4 parallel FPU execution units, the Merced could put Intel into the "big leagues" for workstations where their existing x86 Integer performance is very good but the FPU performance is not up to the competition.

That FPU performance of the Merced has been left out of the advanced obituary notices.
