Kerry's DD 214 lists a Silver Star with a combat “V” (for valor). As the major correctly observes, the “V” is never awarded with the Silver Star. But the actual wording on Kerry’s DD 214 (see www.johnkerry.com) is: “SILVER STAR WITH COMBAT ‘V’.”

My God! Even the man's awards flip flop.

The V is not part of the Silver Star. Never was.

Kerry has awards with two different citations dated years apart. But isn't that just like Kerry.
There are two versions of everything else in his life.
He has SS with V, an award that does not exist.
He has a PH that his commander did not approve.

To 28 million American Veterans this is going to smell real bad. REAL BAD. It smells phony all the way.

Here is the difference.
The SS is only awarded for heroism...specifically...."Gallantry In Action". There is no "V" for the SS.

The BS is awarded for either "Meritorious Achievement In Ground Operations Against Hostile Forces", or "For Heroism In Ground Combat".
The latter includes the "V" which is a little metal thingy that hangs on the center of the award. The "V" designates that the BS was for Valor = heroism.

These are not all clerical errors...no way, no f-n way.

The Swiftees got it right.
