Just tell her it's not good to turn off the pool. It can lead to increased bacteria counts and higher cleaning costs as well as the cost to reheat the pool again. I don't have a pool, so I don't use my pc for that. I would if I did though. I got my outside lights hooked up so I can change them while I'm on vacation. I don't bother doing anything with the phone though. I see that as a waste of my time to set up. The phone does what I want even remotely on it's own. And I don't have my heating and a/c system set up on the pc either. Why bother when the thermostat itself is programmable. It's not like I need to change the heat level in the house when no one is home. Your son's computer was state of the art 8 years ago. Still works well enough for him eh? Must be why the ones I've donated still get used without complaints. Which is my point. There was a lot of difference between my 8086 and 286. Then the 386 was a big improvement. I was thrilled to get the 486. Each Pentium was sweeter than the last. I kept needing a bigger drive and when CD's came out I needed a CD ROM drive. Then I had to get a faster CD ROM drive. Then the CD Burner came and then the DVD drive. But there just isn't that much of a difference now. The software needs to catch up to the power available and that's why the pc cycle has lengthened. It didn't help that consumers went out and bought a bunch of computers when the ISPs were desperate for market share. My sister has an emachine from that time and she's fine with it. Sees no problems running anything and has no plans to get a new system. Her attitude is: Why? The kids can search the net for what they need at speeds that are just fine (she has cable), everyone can use it for email, it runs the software that everyone has on it and rarely has a crash and streaming video sites work peachy. I couldn't give her any reasons, but I'm sure my brother will try next weekend.
