Vestas Wins 310 MW Order For Kenyan Wind Farm by NAW Staff Friday December 12 2014 Vestas has won an order to supply the 310 MW Lake Turkana project in Kenya, which the company says is expected to be Africa's largest wind power plant when completed in 2017. Lake Turkana Wind Power Ltd. placed the order, and the deal comprises supply, installation and commissioning of 365 V52-850 kW turbines, as well as a 15-year service agreement. “Lake Turkana Wind Power Ltd. has made a historic commitment to a clean energy future for Kenya, and we are very proud to play an active role in bringing to life Africa’s largest wind power plant,” says Christoph Vogel, president of Vestas Central Europe. “Eastern and southern Africa are key markets for Vestas, and the Lake Turkana project will establish Kenya among the continent’s wind energy leaders.” nawindpower.com My comments: I traveled through Kenya about ten years ago and was amazed that they were beginning to build out PV microgrids. Many areas of Kenya do not have a grid, especially in rural areas and the bush. Today the installation of this stuff is exploding over there!
