agree w/ many of your observations. Last 5 years, I have noticed the market rewards growth over profitability and as a value investor, it's hard for me to invest in a company that books losses and has no earnings.

That said, MSFT has done an excellent job of reinventing their products/services. I am seeing the same thing w/ WMT. FWIW, I also have been looking at CVS and like their idea of bringing medical services/testing into their stores. I still do not shop there because of their customer loyalty (or demote those that are not loyal) and collecting all that personal information.

The negative on CVS to me was their move into insurance. Maybe that is still developing but it was a huge investment and it was not clear to me that (1) company had expertise to disrupt industry, (2) uncertain political environment and (3) drug/pharma revenues may be capped in the future.

FWIW, I make small bets on many companies and sectors. This way I do limit losses. If a theme/investment and/or sector sttart to outperform, I will add to that investment. I also try to enter the investment early when things look bad and no real plan for recovery. I also look for reversion to the mean plays similar to many of the plays Paul Senior mentions. These are based on 10 years of historical financials. Many of these have turned out fine.

It does become a bit more difficult to find value when market is at/near all time highs too.
