You are so right about this. When you see how "property" crimes affect the working poor & middle class (the usual victims) there is nothing silly about it.

BTW, we had a similar situation happen to us years ago. My husband bought a Vette (used) from a car salesman. It was his personal vehicle. We did the title search, paid the sales tax and thought that was that. Six months later the car was "towed". It seems the guy made duplicate copies of the title and used it as collateral to buy a boat, and then defaulted on the loan. We did get the car back, but only because the guy was facing criminal prosecution and he made "good" on the loans rather than go to jail....
