While I steal a minute away from collating papers for my school's Tupperware fund raiser let me just say that I love Wagner. All through the Night from Tanhauser is one of my favorite pieces of lyrical music- I used to sing it to my kids all the time. And the ring cycle always thrills me. I think it seems(in some circles- certainly not suggesting this of your wife) fashionable to some to diss Wagner. But I find Wagner to be so beautiful, so powerful, so tremendous when done well- I would have to put him at the top of my list. I like Mozart. I loved playing Mozart- though I prefer to play back. My favorite Mozart piece is the Requiem- which I like to play full blast (you know it reminds me of Wagner- I get the same images in my head). I like to sing that too- though I don't like to sing it when anyone is around.
