You're absolutely right. If in the Paula Jones deposition he had simply said "yes, I had sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky, so what?" NONE of this would have happened and the country would have been saved tens of millions of dollars (and in all likelihood we would never have gone to war with Iraq). But telling the truth simply isn't the Clinton way. (Look at his wafflings about smoking grass! Look at all kinds of things.) He is the opposite of the Washington legend -- in his case he would say "Father, I cannot tell the truth (unless you get so much evidence on me that I can't wiggle out of it.)"

Character. Plain and simple.
