Speaking of guns ...

You have to wonder what a few armed "victims' could do in Scotland for the violent crime wave they seem to be suffering:

ONE violent crime is committed every 37 minutes in Scotland as the country fails to tackle the "blades menace".

The latest statistics show a slight increase in the number of crimes and offences overall last year to more than a million.

But while crimes of dishonesty and housebreaking fell to a record low, non-sexual crimes of violence were up by three per cent to 14,099 - or 39 violent crimes every day.

Kenny MacAskill, the justice secretary, blamed the "blades menace" and promised a further crackdown on knife culture.

Yeah, I know, it's a little harder to commit mass murder with a knife, isn't it? Not that taking guns away has had any positive effect on violent crime, per se. And to the victim, gun, knife - dead is dead.

But I'd guess it would be harder to commit murder if the person you're attempting to do in is armed with a gun.

Of course we can't have that - people defending themselves and all. We'd rather complain about the rise in violent crime and the "blades menace" (which I assume replaced the "gun menace") and make promises about crackdowns and, you know, taking a tougher stance and all.

I wonder how many times you have to hear nonsense like that before you just say to hell with it and go out and find a gun, legal or otherwise?
