Singapore's prices fall slightly in February

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Recession-hit Singapore's consumer price index (CPI) fell 0.6 percent in February against the same month a year earlier and was up 0.3 percent versus January, the Department of Statistics said on Sunday.

The index's month-on-month rise, the first since August 2001, was mainly due to higher food prices for itens such as seafood and fresh pork, the department said in a statement.

Singapore celebrated the Lunar New Year during February.

The department attributed the index's year-on-year decline primarily to lower costs of housing, transport and communication.
