Interesting stats.

Ignoring that inflation appears to be higher than govt stats indicate for the moment, I've been thinking that one reason inflation is as low as it is, is that the baby boomers are saving for retirement (despite the reported negative savings rate).

If everyone who had financial assets tried to convert those assets to real goods, I expect we would see some extreme inflation short term.
