Gingell had as much money as he needed, so he didn't go to a startup to get rich, though of course it will make him a lot richer. He was very loyal to McNealy. I was quite surprised by this...I would have bet he was a lifer at Sun. (BTW this change was public several weeks ago when Gingell showed up as CTO on Cassatt's website.) Like the analyst said, he must have really been discouraged by recent developments.

Much more than Bill Joy in the last 15 years or so, Gingell was the soul of Software at Sun no matter how much Schwartz had marginalized him. He was the guy engineers looked up to for the Final Word on just about everything, even though he often gave only a Final Equivocation.

As for the roomster's "another one", it's more accurate to say "there goes the last one". Andy doesn't count, already being on his second tour and a known flight risk.

In terms of operations, McNealy is now THE only one left of the people who made Sun what it was during the 90's.

Sell this crap and hope Cassatt makes it to IPO before getting acquired.

(JMHO/YMMV <G>).
