I think one interesting aspect of AMD right now is their bogus debt rating. The bond raters have reduced them to junk because they haven't been profitable, so they have to pay absurdly high rates on their paper. But I think their business has great prospects and quite a few analysts agree; the bond ratings are out-of-sync with AMD's real-life business prospects. (I realize that part of the ratings also reflect a large existing debt load.)

I can't find the item right now to link to, but within the last six weeks recently AMD had to pay something like 9.5% to float a private placement. I don't believe any of that has come on the market yet for individuals but I'm going to try to get some when it does, assuming it's reasonably priced of course.

I don't think Sun has yet put out seriously compelling AMD-based products, which IMHO they must in order to really turn around and make a difference to AMD's future. But even some of the current toe-in-the-water products are pretty damn nice. I'm just on the verge of chucking my hand-built AMD64 box for a dual-Opteron Sun W2100z...a superb-looking high-end desktop for a reasonable price, certified for Windows XP. I will be happy to pay the smallish price premium for Sun's quality and reliability.
