This speech by AMD's CTO outlines a roadmap eerily similar to Sun's own plans for SPARC. theinquirer.net Right now it's just talk, and schedules for fancy CPU introductions are best taken with a pound of salt. But if it turns out to be anywhere near true in the next five years, SPARC is very dead for very sure, and Sun has a major transition problem to navigate. --QS Edit: even if Sun's CPU roadmap seems more ambitious on paper, you have to factor in the relative track records for Sun (dismal) and AMD (pretty damned good) for getting silicon out the door.
