Winston-Salem, NC -- People across Winston-Salem helped make the city's emergency overflow shelter a success this winter.

Nearly 400 people volunteer at the shelter at First Baptist Church.

It closed last night after 99 days in operation.

The shelter had as many as 36 people staying there on the coldest nights.

Organziers say groups from churches, organizations and Wake Forest University volunteered.

Organizers say they had a backup shelter they didn't need to use.

They are beginning plans to open the shelter again next winter.
