SAN DIEGO, April 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM - News), a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies and mobile data solutions, today announced a number of milestones underscoring how KDDI's wireless data service, powered by QUALCOMM's BREW® solution, continues to spur the demand for mobile applications in the Japanese market. In January 2007, KDDI subscribers downloaded more than seven million BREW applications to their mobile phones. The cumulative number of BREW application downloads is now more than 160 million since KDDI first launched BREW in February 2003.

Gaming has proven to be one of the most active areas of mobile downloads. According to KDDI, its catalog of high-quality mobile games has grown from 2,000 applications in January 2006 to more than 3,000 gaming applications in January 2007. This highlights both the increasing demand for innovative new mobile games and the growth of the global game publisher and developer communities.

"KDDI continues to achieve tremendous success in Japan, reinforcing its leadership role as a provider of advanced wireless data in an already sophisticated mobile market," said Bob Briggs, senior vice president and general manager of BREW, QUALCOMM Internet Services. "The ever-increasing number of mobile application downloads by KDDI subscribers highlights the company's broad catalog of innovative applications and services from leading publishers and developers, as well as the capabilities of KDDI's advanced EV-DO network."

"Since introducing our BREW-based service in 2003, KDDI has strived to increase subscriber satisfaction with a broad range of wireless data offerings, including a strong catalog of mobile games," said Tsuyoshi Takenouchi, general manager of "au" Service Planning Department, Consumer Service & Product Planning Division, Consumer Business Sector for KDDI. "BREW has been a key differentiator for us and has allowed us to stock our catalog with larger and increasingly sophisticated mobile games that open the eyes of the consumer to what they can play on their wireless devices."

BREW solutions change the way people relate to wireless data services. By enabling the discovery and delivery of high-value content, BREW creates opportunities for the wireless industry to enhance consumers' mobile data experience. QUALCOMM's comprehensive and targeted BREW Signature Solutions offer reduced time to market and lower capital investment for companies providing mobile products and services. Customers also can benefit from several modular BREW offerings, including uiOne(TM), deliveryOne(TM) and QPoint(TM), which provide the foundation for customer-differentiated wireless data capabilities.
