If he wasn't AWOL, there should have been some reason given. If he was AWOL, there should have been disciplinary action.

A flyboy for a plane they didn't have for him to fly? In his last year of making meetings? In those days, they didn't care what he did.

Now if you could come up with a group of "Guard vets" who wanted to run ads about what a lousy officer he was, you might have something. Otherwise, "forgeddaboutit."
