December 05, 2000 6:37:00 PM ET

NEW YORK, Dec 5 (Reuters) - Standard & Poor's on Tuesday said three companies from the S&P500 index will be replaced by four companies from its MidCap 400 Index.

Standard & Poor's said QLogic Corp. (QLGC), a storage area networks infrastructure provider, semiconductor maker Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. (VTSS) and specialty surgical and medical products maker Stryker Corp. (SYK) will be added to the S&P500 index after the market closes on Dec. 11.

Those companies will replace film and camera maker Polaroid Corp. (PRD), textile maker Springs Industries Inc. (SMI) and athletic apparel maker Russell Corp. (RML), which are all being dropped from the index.

In addition, Standard & Poor's said consumer products maker Gillette Co. (G) will replace Polaroid on the S&P100 index.
