Since I have not added my 2 cents yet, I agree with bill c. on most of the
issues. BUT!

We can debate the U.S. dinosaurs inevitable movement into DSL until the CA has 20 new names, but however slow the US is moving, this will not stop the rest of the world from moving forward a record pace. Amati saw this from the outset, (see ISDN) and focused on overseas.
I can think of 17 trials overseas off the top of my head, of course there are more. This is an older list, I have not added my recent exploits around Europe.
I imagine it has increased in # of Operators, and # of Households.
