John, it's just the mm's stealing. When they don't see any strength but yet don't have sellers they'll widen out the spread. That way you, as a buyer, aren't looking for the quick flip. Most retail buyers take the ask, they don't bid stock. Why?? Because most firms give an additional credit to the broker for paying up. (Ancient Chinese Secret)
