>>> Government has an obligation to at a minimum insure that we don't lose it all due to illness.

It is an utterly stupid proposition.

If government guarantees you don't "lose it all" due to sickness, what does that mean? You should be entitled to have a car? A home (we already know they want that)? Savings in the bank? Multiple cars, cell phones, nice LCD TVs? Where do you draw the line?

Many people would agree that insurance ought to be available to anyone who wants it. Well, for the most part, it is -- there are very few people in this country who aren't insurable. Maybe we should work on that.

I think what you and other socialists don't get is that our country cannot afford this. We're broke. We don't have the money to do what Obama is trying to do.

Jim Cramer (who I normally despise) really did a great interview yesterday. A life-long Democrat and self-proclaimed former socialist and Obama supporter, he said words to the effect of, "I'd like to do all those things. But our country is broke. Get the economy turned around then we can talk about it." Cramer is right for once.

The country has been destroyed by wars on poverty. FDR's SS and LBJ's Medicare has left us over $50 Trillion in debt we can't deal with (likely, the root cause of our current dilemma). You can't just keep running up the tab and leaving it for your kids and grandkids. Do you not have any sense of responsibility to leave something for them?
