Polipundit - New Kerry Ad Attacks Bush -- Doesn't Refute Allegations

A new internet ad emailed to Kerry supporters features an excerpt from a 2000 primary debate in which John McCain castigates George Bush for being at a rally standing next to someone he describes as a "fringe" vet (whatever the heck that is) who stated that John McCain had abandoned veterans. The ad goes on to say that George Bush ran a dirty campaign using veterans against McCain and that he is up to his "old tricks", this time against Kerry.

Let me get this straight. John Kerry, who has dragged a handful of his "band-of-brothers" around the country and made them THE centerpiece of his nominating convention, is accusing Bush of "using" veterans? Kerry insults the intelligence and independence of all veterans by insinuating that they are just witless tools of George W. Bush. I guess John Kerry is, in effect, calling the 254 Swift Boat Vets, and for that matter, any vets that don't support him, "fringe" vets. Well, according to the latest polls, the fringe vets are the majority now, Senator Kerry, and the ones I know personally, do not appreciate being treated as if they are stupid if they don't want to support you.

And, by the way, it would not kill John McCain to actually sit down and talk to a few of these 254 veterans and listen to their stories before calling them "dishonest and dishonorable". Maybe McCain sympathizes with Kerry because more veterans preferred Bush over him, too.
