I'll go out on a limb here and make these projections:

1. write s.k. off in terms of remaining a viable future player in the chip market: they will continue to produce until their equipment falls apart and then they'll walk away because they don't have the $$$ to upgrade. many major s.k. conglomerates will go bankrupt.

2. I give japan a 30% chance of remaining a viable player: their government is simply incapable of making the decisions necessary to turn that economy around. majors corporations hard pressed to find cash to upgrade.

3. Taiwan will emerge as the dominant player in the chip market. They will capture substantial market share from s.k. and japan. They have the resources to upgrade equipment and weather the storm.

4. MU may or may not survive. depends on how quickly the upcycle begins.

regards
