Solaris on X86 did not sell well because X86 was too slow. This is no longer the case. The workstation market is going Intel Box. Spetra is the placement and Route tool from Cadence Design. AS far as Server goes, NT is coming. Sun is not going away. Most studies I've seen says they will co-exist in the foreseable future.

Reliability, Scalability, Usability, etc. will come. Tandem NT machine are scalable, reliable. They will continue to close the gap until NT is as close to "NSK" machines.
