Very different markets you are talking about there, Pruguy. Generalizations like that are apt to get you into trouble.

I can get to work and the grocery store without a computer. A car is a basic necessity and also can be somewhat of a status symbol at the same time.

I would make one observation -- I didn't know that many cars were leased -- obviously leasing a car allows one to get more car (albeit in a more costly way overall for a shorter period of time) with the same amount of monthly payment -- this suggests to me what others have been saying: Americans have used the great expansion of credit which has been happening in the last few years to overextend themselves. Should the slow down become real, and more folks lose their jobs, which do you think is more of a priority gettting the latest PC so they can run '97 or keeping their cars going. GTW's market in the SOHO market with some government contracts, right?

Perhaps folks think about purchasing computers in the same way as they think about purchasing cars, but I doubt it.
