Who said anything about giving away fish. If you contribute some seal pelts you can have some of the fish. Not everyone needs to know how to do everything on their own. Do you know how to fix your cars electrical system?

Socialism is not that different than capitalism. Sharing, barter. We have simply put a monetary system in between and exchange the symbolic units for goods.

I don't really have any problem with capitalism or socialism, my concern is with the abuses. All of the major socialist countries have always been run by totalitarian regimes. If capitalism were tried under those circumstances it would fail also. But if you ran a socialist country with the same free press and open govt with checks and balances of power that we have had for the last 200 years I believe that it could function very well.

Any system that allows for too much power to be concentrated in a small minority will have trouble. That is where we are headed if we are not careful. Add that to a more and more repressive govt that cracks down on the press in the name of fighting terrorism and you have a very big problem. You say that is a big leap from where we are today and I will say you remind me of a boiled frog.

Let's be safe by all means.
