yes, and that's just what howard was looking for on the dream thread if you read his post. i'd forgotten how detailed norton utilities is under troubleshoot/system info/memory. they list every open app and exactly how much mem it's using, from KB's to MB's. if there is a trialware version available on the symantec site, he ought to download and install it.

and i agree, gottfried. i can never leave my machine running more than 3 days max without wanting to shut it down for refresh.

the open apps that don't give back the memory are 16 bit applications, from what i understand. they hog the resources, then keep 'em thinking they may need 'em again. if that makes sense.
