Just a geopolitical note to give credit to some anonymous planners in Beijing - Having the anti-Japan protests before the KMT visit was very smart. Japan is likely to have the strongest objections to re-unification. By increasing anti-Japan feelings, it will be much harder for Japan to influence the reconciliation efforts - most politicians on either side will more be reluctant to be influenced by their Japanese contacts or the Japanese point of view. Hopefully, the appropriate people will be recognized for this very well done strategic move.
