Scott,

I notice the Financial Post had an article about the annual meeting. The company is looking for a 30% gain in sales in fiscal '98 based on expectations for increasing sales to the US (due in part to the low CAN$). The company president suggests that US sales could triple within the next 3 years. He also mentioned that the low CAN$ tightens margins on imported US flooring products and that maintaining profitablity will require cost control.

To me, this is a mixed report. It's great (especially long term) for them to increase US sales. It could be the future of the company. However, even the suggestion that the company might not be able to remain profitable makes me very nervous.

I understand that GDL is a cyclical company and that during the next slowdown it will probably be in the red, just as it was during the last. If that happens, though, the stock price won't stay where it is. It almost makes me want to sell. Maybe I should hold on for a couple more quarters, but then again...

What do you think?

Mike
