WOODBURY, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 12, 1996--Comverse Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:CMVT) announced today that it has received an initial order worth more than $3 million from PCS (Personal Communications Service) license holder Powertel Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of InterCel Inc. (NASDAQ:ICEL), for the company's TRILOGUE(R) INfinity enhanced services platform.
InterCel expects to employ TRILOGUE to offer a range of messaging, information and other value-added personal communications services to subscribers of its new digital wireless PCS network, which is scheduled for launch later this year under the Powertel service name.

Comverse Technology's TRILOGUE INfinity enhanced services platform, which is marketed to both wireless and wireline network
operators, enables PCS and other digital wireless network operators to provide, among other services, voice/fax/text messaging, interactive voice response, short message service center (SMSC), and Advanced Intelligent Network-based personal communication services such as personal number, call screening and mobile attendant. These services generate revenues for the network operators through messaging mailbox rental fees, information service usage fees, increased call completion, and increased airtime.
Powertel Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of InterCel Inc.
headquartered in West Point, GA., owns licenses to provide Personal
Communications Services covering more than 16 million POPs (Points Of Presence, expressed in terms of population covered) in a 180,000 contiguous square mile service area in all or part of ten southeastern states. Powertel plans to market its PCS services in the Birmingham, AL., Jacksonville, FL and Memphis, TN/Jackson, MS Major Trading Areas (MTAs) beginning in the fourth quarter of 1996 and in the Atlanta, GA MTA beginning in late 1997.
