Gentlemen- Thanks to NM and TAOTB ( netmeeting and TA on the Beach) I understand what you guys are talking about. A little. Since I don't own GET maybe I should not be posting, but just wanted to comment on what I do understand.
MA's, trendlines, GANN boxes, FIB, XTL, right side of chart ..... da da da da. They are all tools to help the brain of the user understand the movement of price in the past and future.
It is the human that makes the good trades. Peter works wonders on a GANN box, Jerry can pivot better than a second baseman. Richard can see the lone tree in the forest of symbols.
A beginner with too many indicators gets lost and screws it up. I know!!
Dave's 5-13-40 is maybe all that some people may need and more than that will kill the student in some cases.
Tim lost his shirt ( he says) using GET as the OLD TESTAMENT. Like Buying a BUY BUY BUY pick because it is there.
Jerry, you are learning that all you learned you can now see with a "simple" trend line.... but it took a lot of "staring" for you to get there. I am still staring and the slightest wrinkle will have me jump out of my seat in fear.. beacuse I do not understand.
Roger Maris could pop one out of the park because he saw a lot of balls go by.
I would guess that the student of art, history, TA, dance... etc. goes from the simple to the complex back to the simple and then comes back to the complex. Once you understand the simple- you feel the complex is useless because you no longer need it. Then you get to the next level. Like peeling the onion.
This is my take-- in other words- you are both right.
It is said in mysticism that at some level, your will is that of God's will there is no difference, but on the way to this understanding you must first have the desire for His will to be your own. When you reach the understanding, the desire for his will to be your own disappears, it just is the same... You hear the drumbeat.
Similarly in TA - once understood the tool is not needed but must be used to get the understanding.
anyway, I have enjoyed this debate very much and respect each of you and the rest of the gang and thank you for showing me these tools both simple and complex.
