If MSFT didn't write NT, then who did? .. DEC here's the abridged story. Some rouge DEC employees wrote an O/S as the next step beyond VMS. They called it WNT. (Get it V M S ... W N T ... Windows NT) DEC killed the project and the engineers quit. MSFT caught wind of it, then hired the team, told them to port to Intel, then started leaking information about it. DEC kept their mouth shut and then cried "patent violations", when it was too late for MSFT to do anything about it other than pay DEC $$$, and jump into bed with them. Kind of explains a lot doesn't it! (I have some second-hand knowledge of this whole thing)
