Smith Micro signs deal with Compaq

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., March 12 (Reuters) - Smith Micro Software said Thursday Compaq Computer Corp (CPQ - news) will start bundling Smith's VideoLink Mail 2.0 software with several models of its Presario family of desktop personal computers.

Smith Micro shares gained 2-3/16 to 4-3/16.

The agreement would start in May 1998, it said.

Smith Micro said its VideoLink Mail software package enables Windows 95 and Windows NT users to record a video and audio message, then attach it to their electronic mail for distribution over the Internet.

''We are very pleased to be working with an acknowledged worldwide leader like Compaq Computer,'' said William Smith Jr, president of Smith Micro.
